A Message from Our Founder

As I was graduating from Louisiana State University, I could count on one hand the amount of Black Women that were graduating from LSU’s College of Science. As I was counting, I couldn’t help but think back on why The Coalition of Black Women (COBWIS) was started. Obviously, there are not many Black Women at LSU that are majoring in STEM-related majors, and because of this, I wished to curate a safe space for Black Women who share the same hopes and dreams as myself. I wanted to bring like-minded Black Women together so that they could forge bonds of camaraderie among themselves. After one successful semester of COBWIS being an organization on LSU’s campus, I can proudly say my wish was exceedingly granted. I completely owe the success of this organization to the brilliant Black Women who dedicated their time to COBWIS. To Charitey Hall, Courtney Hall, Madisyn Hebert, Kameelah Hollis, Kayla Tysinger, Jennifer Ndulaka, Danielle Gibson, Kyrsten Bosely, Raelyn Lanns, and A’maya Hill, I want to thank you all for your hard work and dedication. All of these women have exceeded expectations and truly represent what it means to be hardworking and intelligent. To the members of COBWIS, thank you for dedicating your time to us, attending our meetings, and volunteering. My hope for you all is that COBWIS has motivated you and given you the tools to continue to succeed. And lastly, to future members of COBWIS, I hope that you can bring your gifts and talents to this organization and continue the legacy.

Sincerely,
